What I Learned from My "Vacation"

You may be wondering why I put the word "vacation" in quotes in my subject line.


I did not spend the week on the beach or in a mountain cabin (darn it!). I spent the week away from Trajectory Wellness (which was very hard for me), and turned my focus on getting our homeschool year ready and some of our home's top clutter zones under control so that I could go into our 10th year of homeschooling with my head on straight.


Sounds like a rollicking good time, right? 😆


Here are some things I learned during my "vacation."

1. Moms need to take breaks! I am ashamed to admit that taking time off while growing my business had not even really occurred to me. We were reaching the end of the summer and I had only taken a hand full of days off. NOT GOOD! Can you relate? Do you get the rest you need regularly?


Just because we are boss babes and moms doesn't mean that we can constantly work and achieve. The longer we go without rest, the less inspired, valued, and motivated we feel. When you look back on the person you were in this decade of your life, I'm sure you don't want to see a burnt-out, only mildly happy lady. I hope you want to see a vibrant, happy, kick-butt gal!


Action Step: Schedule daily, monthly, and yearly time off in advance. If it gets on your calendar, the more likely it will actually happen. Set alarms, reminders, put giant post-it notes in your planner. Do whatever it takes to make this a reality.

2. Be realistic about what you can actually accomplish in a day. Are you unrealistic about what you can get done? Do you look at your to-do list and planner and feel disappointment regularly?


You may be suffering from "Overly Optimistic Planner Syndrome". This is when moms take their crazy to-do list and try to stuff all of those tasks into a couple of days with no regard for reality or "real life" happening. You can see how this can lead to disappointment, feelings of failure, and anxiety, right?


Action Step: Cut your to-do list in half (or even 1/3) and add the other ideas to a "soon" list. Imagine only listing your top priority tasks for the day and crossing all of them off your list. Did you finish early? You could always grab an item off your "soon" list and get going on that. You could also (ahem) refer to point #1 and take a needed break.
